Internationellt besök 26 april – Cyber Warfare and Russian Cyberspace Operations in Ukraine

Janne Haldesten, Sectyne,

Cyber warfare, or cyberspace operations, refers to the use of technology and computer networks to conduct military operations and gain advantages in conflicts. It involves attacking or defending digital systems and networks, such as communication systems and critical infrastructure. Cyberspace operations has become an increasingly important aspect of modern warfare, where nations are utilising cyberspace operations for strategic power projection but also as a force multiplier in conventional military campaigns.

Dr. Oleksandr Adamov , cybersecurity expert, NioGuard Security Lab,

Russia has been accused of carrying out cyber operations in Ukraine, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict between the two countries. Russian cyberspace operations in Ukraine have included attacks on government websites, critical infrastructure, and military targets. These attacks have been part of a broader strategy aimed at exerting control over Ukraine and undermining its government and institutions. The conflict has been ongoing since 2014, with Russia annexing Crimea from Ukraine and supporting separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine.
